Frequently asked questions

Hello, my name’s Sophie and I’m here to explain a bit more about what do here at Northumberland Glass, your local supplier of a range of home improvement products and double glazing solutions.

Based in Berwick-upon-Tweed and Houghton le Spring, Shaun and my Mum, cover the whole of Northumberland and the North East of England including Newcastle and Durham.

The most popular thing we get asked about is our ReFresh option. What’s it all about and how does it work, so we’ve put together some frequently asked questions. Anything you might think of that we haven’t covered then drop us an email using our Contact Us form.

What is ReFresh?

ReFresh is a way of updating your double glazing without the hefty price tag. uPVC frames can last a lot longer than most guarantees. With some TLC can be brought back to life. The secret is the High Performance glass we use. It’s the glass pane in your frame which loses the most energy. Replace this and you will feel the benefits. The oldest double glazing we have ReFreshed, to date, was 19 years!

How can a ReFresh benefit me?

ReFresh is less expensive than traditional double glazing and the long term energy saving benefits are as good when all windows in your home are ReFreshed. Plus, the disruption is minimal and our team can often be in and out in a day!

How do I know ReFresh is right for my home?

ReFresh isn’t right for every home and every window (or door & conservatory) but we will always give you an honest answer. In some instances, where a window is beyond repair, through damage or poor installation initially, we will quote to fully replace that window. It doesn’t mean that other windows in your home cannot be ReFreshed.

General FAQs

What happens after I get in touch?

Whether your enquiry is about ReFresh, new windows, doors or a stunning conservatory, the first thing we will do is pop in to see you and have a chat about what you would like. We don’t have salesmen so there’s no need to worry about the hard sell! Shaun has over 30 years’ experience and is always there to help and advise first and foremost.

What happens next?

If you’re happy with the quote we provide then a full Survey visit will be carried out to ensure all measurements, designs etc are correct. We will arrange an installation date with you but remember all our windows and doors are made to measure so they do have to be made fresh!

What do we need to do on the day?

Before we arrive, we do ask that you clear the areas around where work is to be completed. Make sure any pets and children are kept safe and away from the areas we are working.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We live in the UK and poor weather I to be expected sometimes. Wherever possible, and with safety first, we will carry out work as far as possible. If the weather is too poor we will let you know as soon as possible and rearrange to compete the work another day as a priority.

When do I have to pay for the work?

Payment is due on completion of the work. Staged payments are taken on all conservatory works and dependant on the contract agreed with us. Payments can be made by cash, cheque or bank transfer.

What guarantee do you provide?

We offer a 10 year guarantee on double glazing and doors and 15 years on our conservatories. Glass units used during a Refresh are guaranteed for 5 years but unfortunately we cannot guarantee the frames themselves as we have not provided them.
